Built on Friendship and Tradition

Our History

Kings Bay Lodge traces its roots back to 1957, when a group of longtime fishing buddies from Tennessee discovered the magic of the Crystal River area. What began as a simple fishing camp—just tents and a few small outbuildings—quickly became a beloved weekend retreat. Before long, their wives and children wanted to join the fun, and the little camp began to evolve.

As taxes on the property increased, the men decided to build rental efficiencies to help offset the cost of maintaining their getaway. The first structure, the north-side building, was constructed and rented for many years. A second set of rooms and additional storage areas were added as the lodge grew in popularity.

The original office was a two-story building until a fire—year unknown—reduced it to a single level. When the time came to rebuild, the owners chose to keep it one story, a decision that has remained part of the lodge’s character ever since.

Over the decades, Kings Bay Lodge has seen changes in ownership, landscaping, and amenities. Yet through all of that, one thing has never faded: the unmistakable “feel of old Florida.” The lodge still carries the relaxed charm, natural beauty, and welcoming spirit that first drew those Tennessee fishermen to the water nearly seventy years ago.
